When should I start looking for a room in Dehradun?
For a July or August session start, look in May and June. Rooms near Graphic Era and UPES fill in a few weeks once admissions close, and the rooms left in late July cost more. Working professionals have an easier time outside June to August, when student demand eases.
Is tenant police verification mandatory in Dehradun?
Yes. Uttarakhand Police requires landlords to verify tenants. It can be done through the Uttarakhand Police tenant verification service or at the local police station, with the tenant's ID. It protects the tenant too — ask for it rather than agreeing to skip it.
Do I need a rent agreement for a room in Dehradun?
For a PG, get at least a written receipt that states the rent, the deposit and what is included. For a flat, an 11-month rent agreement on stamp paper is standard in Dehradun. When flatmates share a flat, put everyone's name on the agreement, or write down how the rent and deposit are split.
