Single Room PG Near Graphic Era — What It Costs
Everyone asks the price and almost nobody publishes it. So: a single room in a PG near Graphic Era runs roughly ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 a month on Bell Road, and ₹4,000 to ₹8,000 once you move a few minutes out. Here is the whole picture, area by area, with what's actually included.
Who lives here
Graphic Era students who want their own room rather than a shared one — usually second years onward, and first years whose parents would rather pay for privacy.
What the price usually includes. Most Clement Town PGs quote a rate that covers the bed, two meals and cleaning of common areas. Electricity is very often billed separately in summer, laundry is usually extra, and Wi-Fi varies enormously in quality between buildings on the same lane.
Where to live, area by area
Rents below are indicative ranges for a private room in a shared flat, before deposit. Confirm the number with the person before you commit to anything.
The campus road itself. Graphic Era's main gate is on it, so this is as close as accommodation gets — five to ten minutes on foot. Fills first every single year.
₹6,000 – ₹10,000 / month for a private room
Behind the main road, ten to fifteen minutes' walk. Quieter lanes, bigger rooms for the money, and where most of the shared flats actually are.
₹5,000 – ₹9,000 / month for a private room
Fifteen to twenty minutes by scooter. Noticeably cheaper, newer buildings, and the usual answer once the Bell Road stock has gone.
₹4,500 – ₹8,000 / month for a private room
A short auto ride. Cheapest in the belt, well connected for anyone travelling home often, and busier than the campus lanes.
₹4,000 – ₹7,500 / month for a private room

Dehradun deposits are the gentlest anywhere Bunkd operates — one month is normal and plenty of PG owners ask for none at all if you pay quarterly. Read the security deposit guide before you hand anything over, and get the refund terms written on the receipt.
Flatmate, roommate or PG — which one do you actually want?
The words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, which matters when you are searching.
- A flatmate shares the flat but has their own room. You split rent and bills, cook or order separately, and keep your own space. This is what most working professionals in Graphic Era mean when they say flatmate.
- A roommate shares the room itself. Cheapest option by a wide margin — often 40 to 50 percent less than a private room — and common among students and first-jobbers who are saving hard.
- A PG gives you a bed with meals and cleaning handled, plus house rules and often a gate timing. Simpler to start, less freedom, and once you split a flat three ways the cost difference usually disappears.
Bunkd covers all three. You set whether you want your own room or are happy sharing one, and the matching works the same way either direction. If a PG is what you are after, the honest PG versus flatshare comparison is worth five minutes before you sign.
When to look
Prices move with the admission wave. A room quoted at ₹7,000 in April is frequently ₹8,500 by the second week of July, because demand triples and the good stock is gone. Booking in April or May is worth ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 a month for the same room — the single easiest saving available to you.
What to check before you pay anything
- Ask whether the quote is per bed or per room. "Single room" sometimes means one bed in a room of three.
- Confirm how many meals are included and see the mess before paying. The gap between a good mess and a bad one is the difference between eating there and eating out every night.
- Ask if electricity is separate and what it ran to last summer. This is the most common hidden cost in Dehradun.
- Check hot water and heating. Dehradun winters are genuinely cold from December and plenty of older buildings have neither.
- Get the deposit and its refund terms written on the receipt, not agreed verbally.
Finding the person, not just the room
Most flatshares fail on lifestyle, not on rent. Bunkd asks the things that actually decide whether living together works — sleep schedule, cleanliness, social battery, guest policy, food preference and your one real dealbreaker — and matches on those. You swipe through people, match when it is mutual, and chat inside the app before anyone shares a phone number.
If you have not found a flat yet, Squad Mode lets you match with other people searching in Graphic Era so you can pool budgets and take a 2BHK or 3BHK together. Splitting a bigger flat is almost always cheaper per person than renting a single room alone — the rent split calculator works out a fair division when the rooms are not the same size.

Common questions
How much is a single room PG near Graphic Era?
₹6,000 to ₹10,000 a month on Bell Road with meals included, ₹5,000 to ₹9,000 in inner Clement Town, and ₹4,000 to ₹8,000 in Mothrowala or Majra. Sharing a room instead brings it down to roughly ₹3,500 to ₹5,500.
What's included in that price?
Usually the bed, two meals a day and common-area cleaning. Electricity is frequently billed separately, especially in summer. Laundry is normally extra. Always ask for the all-in number rather than the headline rent.
Is a shared flat cheaper than a PG?
Once split three ways, usually yes — and you get a kitchen and no gate timing. A 2BHK in Clement Town at ₹14,000 to ₹18,000 split three ways is ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 each with far more space than a PG bed.
When are prices lowest?
April and May, before the admission rush. The same room commonly costs ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 more a month if you book it in the second week of July.
Do I have to pay brokerage?
Not on Bunkd. Local brokers in Dehradun typically ask half to a full month's rent; we take nothing from either side.
