Rooms & PG on Bell Road, Dehradun

Bell Road is the single most contested address in student Dehradun, for one reason: Graphic Era's main gate is on it. Everything here is priced on walking distance, and it empties within about three weeks of the first admission list.

Who lives here

Almost entirely Graphic Era University and Hill University students, with a small population of young working people at the Clement Town offices and the IT Park side.

What's on the road. Graphic Era University's main gate, the food and photocopy strip that serves it, and a dense run of PGs and rented floors built almost entirely for students. The ISBT is ten minutes away, which matters if you travel home often.

Where to live, area by area

Rents below are indicative ranges for a private room in a shared flat, before deposit. Confirm the number with the person before you commit to anything.

Bell Road, gate end

Closest to the Graphic Era main gate. Five minutes on foot and priced for it. First to go, every year.

₹6,500 – ₹10,000 / month for a private room

Bell Road, ISBT end

Same road, further from the gate, ten to fifteen minutes' walk. Meaningfully cheaper for very little extra effort.

₹5,500 – ₹9,000 / month for a private room

Lanes off Bell Road

One turn back from the main road. Quieter, bigger rooms, and where most of the shared flats sit rather than PGs.

₹5,000 – ₹9,000 / month for a private room

Society Area side

Toward Graphic Era Hill University. Residential and calmer, good if you're at the Hill campus.

₹5,500 – ₹9,500 / month for a private room

What it actually costs per month in Bell Road

Rent is the number people compare, and it is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the realistic all-in figure for one person sharing a flat in Bell Road.

What you payTypical range
Room rent (private, shared flat)₹5,000 – ₹10,000
Deposit (one-off)₹5,000 – ₹10,000 (1 month typical)
Maintenance & utilities₹500 – ₹1,300
Foodincluded in most PGs; ₹3,500 – ₹6,000 if self-catering
Local transport₹200 – ₹700 (walkable)
Realistic monthly total₹8,500 – ₹17,000

Dehradun deposits are the gentlest anywhere Bunkd operates — one month is normal and plenty of PG owners ask for none at all if you pay quarterly. Read the security deposit guide before you hand anything over, and get the refund terms written on the receipt.

Flatmate, roommate or PG — which one do you actually want?

The words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, which matters when you are searching.

Bunkd covers all three. You set whether you want your own room or are happy sharing one, and the matching works the same way either direction. If a PG is what you are after, the honest PG versus flatshare comparison is worth five minutes before you sign.

When to look

June to August, with the sharp end in the three weeks after results. Bell Road is the first stock in Dehradun to disappear and the last to reappear. Looking in April costs you nothing and gets you the pick of it.

What to check before you pay anything

Finding the person, not just the room

Most flatshares fail on lifestyle, not on rent. Bunkd asks the things that actually decide whether living together works — sleep schedule, cleanliness, social battery, guest policy, food preference and your one real dealbreaker — and matches on those. You swipe through people, match when it is mutual, and chat inside the app before anyone shares a phone number.

If you have not found a flat yet, Squad Mode lets you match with other people searching in Bell Road so you can pool budgets and take a 2BHK or 3BHK together. Splitting a bigger flat is almost always cheaper per person than renting a single room alone — the rent split calculator works out a fair division when the rooms are not the same size.

Common questions

How much is a room on Bell Road?

₹6,500 to ₹10,000 a month at the gate end with meals, ₹5,500 to ₹9,000 toward ISBT, and ₹5,000 to ₹9,000 in the lanes just off it. Sharing a room is roughly ₹3,500 to ₹5,500.

Is Bell Road worth the premium?

If you'd otherwise need a scooter, yes — walking to your own gate in five minutes is worth real money over a year. If you already have transport, the lanes behind and Mothrowala give you a better room for less.

When does Bell Road fill up?

Within about three weeks of the first Graphic Era admission list, usually late June into July. It is the fastest-moving stock in Dehradun.

Can I share a flat here rather than take a PG?

Yes, mostly in the lanes off the main road. A 2BHK split three ways works out around ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 each with a kitchen and no gate timing.

Is there brokerage on Bell Road?

Local brokers usually ask half to a full month. On Bunkd there is none — you deal with the person directly.
