How Bunkd Works
Bunkd is a swipe-based flatmate finder for India. Built for students and young professionals who'd rather meet a real human than haggle with a broker.

Open Bunkd, enter your phone number, get an OTP, snap a profile photo, and pick your area. That's it. No long forms, no awkward bio prompts, no "describe your ideal living situation in 500 words". We use your phone number to verify you're a real person and to prevent duplicate accounts — never to spam you.
2. Tell us your vibe
The lifestyle stuff matters more than the room. We ask the things you'd actually want to know before signing a rent agreement:
- Sleep schedule — early bird, night owl, or flexible
- Cleanliness — spotless, tidy, lived-in, or "let's not talk about it"
- Social battery — extrovert who wants a friend, or "we'll high-five in the kitchen"
- Guest policy — frequent guests fine, occasional, or no
- Food — vegetarian, non-veg, eggetarian, vegan, jain
- Dealbreaker — the one thing you absolutely can't tolerate
- Unpopular opinion — give us your spice 🌶️
This is what we match on. Two people whose lifestyles fit make better flatmates than two strangers who clicked because the room was cheap.
3. Swipe
Swipe right on people you'd like to live with, left to skip. The card shows their photos, age, occupation, area, rent budget, lifestyle tags, bio, and any room photos if they're a Host (someone with a room to fill). When two people swipe right on each other, you match — and chat unlocks.
4. Hunter or Host — pick your side
Every Bunkd user is either:
- Hunter — looking for a room and/or someone to share one with
- Host — has a room in their flat and is looking for a flatmate to fill it
Hunters see Hosts (rooms to take). Hosts see Hunters (people who might fit). Hunters can also toggle Squad Mode to see other Hunters — team up with 1–2 people first, pool budgets, and hunt a 2BHK/3BHK together.
5. Chat in-app, meet IRL
Once matched, chat happens inside Bunkd. We never share your phone number unless you choose to. Once you're comfortable, meet for chai or coffee, see the flat, and decide if you want to move in together. Bunkd doesn't handle rent payment or agreements — we just get the right two people to the same coffee shop.
6. Safety baked in
Every profile is phone-verified. You can block any user — they'll vanish from your feed and matches instantly. You can report for fake profiles, scams, harassment, or inappropriate content. We review every report. Reports stay anonymous.

Why we built it this way
Three of us went through the standard Indian flatmate hunt — Facebook groups, NoBroker, broker walkthroughs at 8 PM after work — and every single time we ended up with someone whose lifestyle clashed with ours. The room was fine. The roommate wasn't. So we built the thing we wished existed: a way to swipe through people first, rooms second.
