The basics
What is Bunkd?
Bunkd is a swipe-based flatmate matching app for India. Verified users in your area show up as cards. Swipe right on people you'd want to live with, left to skip. Two right-swipes = match + chat unlocks.
Is Bunkd free?
Yes. Free to download, sign up, match, and chat. No listing fees, no brokerage, no paywalls.
Which cities does Bunkd support?
Bunkd works anywhere in India. Most active: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, and Nainital (DSB / GEHU / BIAS belt). New cities open as users from those areas join.
Is there an Android / iOS app?
Bunkd is a Progressive Web App (PWA). Open getbunkd.in on Chrome (Android) or Safari (iOS) and tap "Add to Home Screen". It opens like a native app, works offline-friendly, and gets push notifications. Native app listings are coming.
Matching
What is the difference between Hunter and Host?
Hunter = looking for a room and/or a flatmate. Host = has a room in their flat to fill. Hunters see Hosts. Hosts see Hunters. In Squad Mode, Hunters also see other Hunters.
What is Squad Mode?
Squad Mode lets 2–3 Hunters team up first — pool budgets, find people you'd live with — and then hunt a 2BHK / 3BHK together. Toggle Squad Mode in the app to start seeing other hunters.
What does the Vibe Score on a card mean?
It's a compatibility hint based on overlap between your lifestyle tags (sleep, cleanliness, social vibe, food, etc.) and theirs. Treat it as a hint, not gospel — a great match can have a moderate score and vice versa.
Can I filter by gender or rent budget?
Yes. Tap the filter icon on the swipe screen. You can filter by gender (All / Male / Female) and set a max rent.
Verification & safety
How are profiles verified?
Every account is created with an OTP-verified Indian phone number. Email verification is optional and shows a badge on your profile. We enforce one account per phone.
How do I report or block someone?
Tap the three-dot menu on their card or inside chat → Report / Block. Blocked users vanish from your feed and inbox instantly. Reports go to our review queue and we act on every one.
Is my phone number visible to other users?
No. Your phone number is never shown in your profile card. It's only used for verification and login. Read more in our Safety guide.
Account
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Profile → Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, matches, messages, and photos. Irreversible.
How do I edit my profile?
Tap the Profile tab → edit any field directly. Changes sync immediately and reflect in any matched user's chat header within a few minutes.
I'm not getting notifications. Why?
Make sure you allowed notifications when prompted. On iOS Safari, you must first add Bunkd to your Home Screen — only the home-screen PWA receives push notifications on iOS. We also enforce a 10 PM–8 AM IST quiet window, so notifications outside business hours are silenced.
Practical
Does Bunkd handle rent payment or rent agreements?
No. We just match you with a flatmate. Rent payment and the rent agreement happen directly between you, your flatmate, and your landlord. We have first-meet safety tips to help you do that part well.
Can I use Bunkd without GPS?
Yes. You can set your location manually via the in-app search. GPS just gives more accurate distance estimates.
What's an "unrevealed like"?
When someone swipes right on you but you haven't seen their profile yet, you'll see a notification badge on the Likes tab. Tap to see who's interested.
For Hosts
I have a room to fill. How do I list it?
Sign up, pick "Host" as your role, add room photos, rent, society/building name, furnishing status and availability date. Hunters in your area will start seeing your card.
Can I list multiple rooms?
Not yet — one room per profile, one profile per phone number. We're working on landlord/broker mode for legitimate multi-listing use cases.
