Flatmates & Roommates in Undri, Pune
Updated 30 Sep 2026
Undri is the frontier of south-east Pune. Until recently it was farmland and a few villages past the last junction on the Kondhwa side; now it is rows of new residential towers with a chowk, a few malls and supermarkets, and very little of the older street life that Kondhwa has. That makes it a specific kind of market. Almost everything on offer is a recent 1BHK, 2BHK or 3BHK in a society, priced below NIBM Road, and the buildings are cleaner than anything nearer the city. You pay for that in distance and in the fact that you will spend real time on the road every day.
Who lives here
Young couples, families and IT professionals on a moderate budget who want a newer building than they could afford closer in, plus small flatmate groups pooling for a 2BHK or 3BHK.
What's nearby. New residential townships along Undri Chowk and Pisoli, school and coaching-class clusters, small local markets, and access to Saswad Road, Magarpatta and the Hadapsar industrial belt. Employment is mostly elsewhere; Undri is where people sleep.
Where to live, area by area
Rents below are indicative ranges for a private room in a shared flat, before deposit. Confirm the number with the person before you commit to anything.
The commercial centre, with supermarkets, bank branches, clinics and a strip of restaurants. Convenience is the draw and the price reflects it. The junction itself is congested at peak hour, so check which side of it your building sits on.
₹7,000 – ₹13,500 / month for a private room
The area toward Kondhwa Budruk on the Undri-Pisoli Road. Older village lanes mix with new apartment blocks, and it has the widest range of prices. A building on the wrong lane can be a bad bargain, so visit before committing.
₹6,000 – ₹12,000 / month for a private room
Toward Hadapsar and Handewadi. Better for people who work east, and it lets you avoid the Kondhwa junction. Newer societies with parking; public transport is thin.
₹6,500 – ₹13,000 / month for a private room
The outermost pockets, toward Saswad Road and the Katraj-Kondhwa link, where you get the biggest rooms for the least money. Only sensible if you have your own two-wheeler and a job that starts late, because every trip into the city is long.
₹5,500 – ₹10,500 / month for a private room
How long it actually takes to get places
| Destination | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Magarpatta / Hadapsar | 30–50 min by two-wheeler; the Handewadi and Saswad Road junctions are the main choke points |
| Kharadi / EON IT Park | 50–80 min; a genuinely long commute that most people here avoid by choosing an east-side job |
| Camp / Pune station | 40–70 min through Kondhwa and Wanowrie |
| Swargate | 45–70 min in peak traffic; PMPML buses run but are not frequent late in the evening |
What it actually costs per month in Undri
Rent is the number people compare, and it is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the realistic all-in figure for one person sharing a flat in Undri.
| What you pay | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Room rent (private, shared flat) | ₹6,000 – ₹13,500 |
| Deposit (one-off) | ₹12,000 – ₹27,000 |
| Maintenance & utilities | ₹1,200 – ₹3,000 |
| Food | ₹4,500 – ₹7,000 |
| Local transport | ₹1,200 – ₹2,800 (a vehicle is close to essential) |
| Realistic monthly total | ₹13,000 – ₹25,000 |
The deposit is the part that catches people out — Pune commonly asks two months up front and some landlords ask more. Read the security deposit guide before you hand anything over, and get the refund terms written on the receipt.
Flatmate, roommate or PG — which one do you actually want?
The words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, which matters when you are searching.
- A flatmate shares the flat but has their own room. You split rent and bills, cook or order separately, and keep your own space. This is what most working professionals in Undri mean when they say flatmate.
- A roommate shares the room itself. Cheapest option by a wide margin — often 40 to 50 percent less than a private room — and common among students and first-jobbers who are saving hard.
- A PG gives you a bed with meals and cleaning handled, plus house rules and often a gate timing. Simpler to start, less freedom, and once you split a flat three ways the cost difference usually disappears.
Bunkd covers all three. You set whether you want your own room or are happy sharing one, and the matching works the same way either direction. If a PG is what you are after, the honest PG versus flatshare comparison is worth five minutes before you sign.
When to look
Undri has almost no student seasonality and is not tied to a campus. Vacancies rise when new towers are handed over, which happens irregularly through the year, and owners then compete for first tenants with lower rents and a shorter deposit. April to June is when families move ahead of the school year, which tightens the 2BHK market. Rooms in flats shared by professionals open up after appraisal cycles. If you are flexible, a newly handed-over building in the monsoon months is where the negotiating room is.
What to check before you pay anything
- Ask whether the society has completed occupancy and possession. Some Undri buildings are still half-built around you, with noise and dust from the adjacent tower.
- Ask about the internal road. Several new societies sit on unpaved or half-finished access lanes that turn to mud in the monsoon.
- Find out what the last auto or shared cab does at night. In parts of Undri you will be walking or waiting alone after 10pm.
- Verify the water supply. Newer towers usually have borewells, but check the source in April and May.
- Read the flatmate clause in the agreement. Some societies here register only two named occupants and challenge extra names at the gate.
Finding the person, not just the room
Most flatshares fail on lifestyle, not on rent. Bunkd asks the things that actually decide whether living together works — sleep schedule, cleanliness, social battery, guest policy, food preference and your one real dealbreaker — and matches on those. You swipe through people, match when it is mutual, and chat inside the app before anyone shares a phone number.
If you have not found a flat yet, Squad Mode lets you match with other people searching in Undri so you can pool budgets and take a 2BHK or 3BHK together. Splitting a bigger flat is almost always cheaper per person than renting a single room alone — the rent split calculator works out a fair division when the rooms are not the same size.

Common questions
How much is a room for rent in Undri?
A private room in a shared flat is around ₹6,000 to ₹13,500 a month. Undri Chowk sits at the top of that range and the Pisoli and outer pockets at the bottom. A whole 2BHK is often ₹16,000 to ₹26,000, so splitting it two or three ways is the usual approach.
Is Undri too far from the city?
For central Pune, yes. It is a long commute to Camp, Swargate or the Shivajinagar side. For Magarpatta, Hadapsar or the NIBM belt it is manageable. Treat it as a home base for east-side and south-side jobs, not as a place that is close to everything.
Do I need a vehicle in Undri?
In practice, yes. PMPML buses serve the main road and autos are available near the chowk, but services thin out in the inner lanes and after dark. Budget for fuel and parking, and confirm your building has a slot for a bike.
Undri or Kondhwa for a shared flat?
Undri gives you newer buildings and more space for the money, but a longer commute and less street life. Kondhwa is older and more central, with better access to public transport. Newer building against shorter distance is the actual trade.
Are there brokerage fees on Bunkd?
None. Bunkd is free for people looking for a flatmate and for people with a spare room, and brokerage is never charged on matches.
