Rent is the number people compare, and it is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the realistic all-in figure for one person sharing a flat in Koramangala.

Flatmate, roommate or PG — which one do you actually want?

The words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, which matters when you are searching.

• A flatmate shares the flat but has their own room. You split rent and bills, cook or order separately, and keep your own space. This is what most working professionals in Koramangala mean when they say flatmate.
• A roommate shares the room itself. Cheapest option by a wide margin — often 40 to 50 percent less than a private room — and common among students and first-jobbers who are saving hard.

Koramangala turns over on job changes rather than an academic calendar, so rooms open all year with two to four weeks of notice. The tightest stretch is January through March. Because so much sharing here happens inside existing friend groups, the rooms that reach a listing site are usually the ones nobody in the flat's own network wanted — finding a flatmate directly gets you into better places.

What to check before you pay anything

• Ask what the deposit actually is. Koramangala landlords still ask six to ten months more often than the rest of the city.
• Many of the independent houses have no lift and no power backup. Check both.
• Confirm whether the rent includes maintenance — in the newer apartments off 80 Feet Road it usually does not.
• Parking is genuinely scarce in 5th and 6th Block. Confirm before you commit if you have a car.
• Ask about the water source. Parts of Koramangala are on tanker supply through the summer.
