Flatmates & Roommates in Warje, Pune
Updated 30 Sep 2026
Warje is where Kothrud ends and the Mumbai-Bangalore highway begins, and the highway is the reason people live here. It is one of the few places in west Pune where you can reach Baner, Wakad and Hinjewadi without crossing the whole city, and where rents are still a notch below Kothrud. The area is a patchwork: old village cores, dense apartment strips along the highway service road, and newer townships toward Shivane and the NDA road. Few landmarks make it a destination, but it is a practical location for people who work west and want lower rent than Baner charges.
Who lives here
IT professionals working at Hinjewadi, Baner or Balewadi who cannot justify Baner rents, small groups pooling for a 2BHK, and a smaller number of students from the Kothrud and Karve Nagar institutes.
Who works nearby. Commuters to Hinjewadi's Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Baner and Balewadi offices, the Kothrud and Karve Nagar campuses, and small businesses along the Warje Malwadi highway strip. The National Defence Academy on the NDA road shapes some of the outer area.
Where to live, area by area
Rents below are indicative ranges for a private room in a shared flat, before deposit. Confirm the number with the person before you commit to anything.
The commercial heart, on the highway side, with markets, bus stops and the flyover. Best transport, but the busiest lanes and the most traffic noise. Popular with people who want to get on the highway in five minutes.
₹6,000 – ₹12,000 / month for a private room
The residential lanes behind the highway, closer to the Karve Nagar side. Quieter, more cooperative societies and flats, with shorter runs into Kothrud. Steady demand and fewer vacancies.
₹6,500 – ₹13,000 / month for a private room
Older neighbourhoods toward the NDA road, with a mix of small flats and independent houses. Cheaper per bed and quieter, with more variability in building quality. Look at the specific building rather than the area name.
₹5,500 – ₹11,000 / month for a private room
Apartment strips along the highway itself. The best time to Hinjewadi and Baner, and the worst air and noise. Worth it if you commute every day and can sleep with a closed window.
₹6,500 – ₹13,000 / month for a private room
How long it actually takes to get places
| Destination | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Baner / Balewadi | 20–40 min via the highway; the Chandni Chowk junction is where the delays are |
| Hinjewadi | 40–70 min through the Wakad or Bavdhan side; a fast day is 40, a wet peak-hour day can be double |
| Kothrud / Karve Nagar | 10–20 min, a short run and Warje's biggest advantage over the outer townships |
| Deccan / Shivajinagar | 30–50 min via Karve Road; Metro Line 2 stations along Karve Road, such as Anand Nagar, can shorten it |
What it actually costs per month in Warje
Rent is the number people compare, and it is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the realistic all-in figure for one person sharing a flat in Warje.
| What you pay | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Room rent (private, shared flat) | ₹5,500 – ₹13,000 |
| Deposit (one-off) | ₹11,000 – ₹26,000 |
| Maintenance & utilities | ₹1,000 – ₹2,500 |
| Food | ₹4,500 – ₹7,000 |
| Local transport | ₹800 – ₹2,200 |
| Realistic monthly total | ₹11,500 – ₹23,500 |
The deposit is the part that catches people out — Pune commonly asks two months up front and some landlords ask more. Read the security deposit guide before you hand anything over, and get the refund terms written on the receipt.
Flatmate, roommate or PG — which one do you actually want?
The words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, which matters when you are searching.
- A flatmate shares the flat but has their own room. You split rent and bills, cook or order separately, and keep your own space. This is what most working professionals in Warje mean when they say flatmate.
- A roommate shares the room itself. Cheapest option by a wide margin — often 40 to 50 percent less than a private room — and common among students and first-jobbers who are saving hard.
- A PG gives you a bed with meals and cleaning handled, plus house rules and often a gate timing. Simpler to start, less freedom, and once you split a flat three ways the cost difference usually disappears.
Bunkd covers all three. You set whether you want your own room or are happy sharing one, and the matching works the same way either direction. If a PG is what you are after, the honest PG versus flatshare comparison is worth five minutes before you sign.
When to look
Warje follows the IT hiring cycle, with new batches in January to March and July to September. Rooms appear when people move to Baner after a promotion, and that tends to be around appraisal season in April and May. There is very little student seasonality. The advantage of a market with owner-occupiers is that a good flatmate can be found through the building itself, so word of mouth is worth more than a portal for the first message.
What to check before you pay anything
- Ask about the highway distance and the noise. A building on the service road can be far louder and dustier than one two lanes in.
- Test the Chandni Chowk crossing at the time you will travel. It can add fifteen minutes on a wet day.
- Check the flat's water source. Some Shivane and Ahire buildings rely on tankers in the dry months.
- Confirm whether the building has a legal occupancy certificate. Warje has a lot of fast construction in areas that were recently added to the city.
- Ask about extra charges like gas, wifi and society maintenance, which are often billed separately here.
Finding the person, not just the room
Most flatshares fail on lifestyle, not on rent. Bunkd asks the things that actually decide whether living together works — sleep schedule, cleanliness, social battery, guest policy, food preference and your one real dealbreaker — and matches on those. You swipe through people, match when it is mutual, and chat inside the app before anyone shares a phone number.
If you have not found a flat yet, Squad Mode lets you match with other people searching in Warje so you can pool budgets and take a 2BHK or 3BHK together. Splitting a bigger flat is almost always cheaper per person than renting a single room alone — the rent split calculator works out a fair division when the rooms are not the same size.

Common questions
How much is a room for rent in Warje?
A private room in a shared flat is roughly ₹5,500 to ₹13,000 a month. Ramnagar and the highway service road sit at the higher end, Shivane and the outer lanes at the lower. A whole 2BHK often costs ₹15,000 to ₹24,000, split by two or three flatmates.
Is Warje good for working in Hinjewadi?
It is closer than Kothrud and much cheaper than Baner, and the highway is easy to reach. The ride is still 40 to 70 minutes on a typical day, and on wet or peak days longer. It is a reasonable compromise, not a short commute.
Warje or Baner for an IT job?
Baner has more restaurants, nicer buildings and shorter Hinjewadi runs, at rents that can be ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 more per room. Warje gives you the same highway access for less, in a rougher neighbourhood. If your priority is savings, Warje.
Is Warje safe for women?
Many women live in Warje, especially in the cooperative societies in Ramnagar. As anywhere in Pune, check the lighting, the gate security and how late you can get an auto. The busy highway edge is safer at night because it is busy.
Are there brokerage fees on Bunkd?
None. Bunkd is free for people looking for a flatmate or a room and for people with a spare room to fill, and charges no brokerage on matches.
