Flatmates & Roommates in Nigdi, Pune
Updated 30 Sep 2026
Nigdi is the planned end of Pimpri-Chinchwad. Much of it was laid out by the new-town authority as numbered sectors, which is why you find Sector 21, Sector 27 and Sector 28 in addresses instead of lane names. That gives it wider roads, more open space and a calmer feel than Pimpri or Chinchwad, and it makes finding your way easier. It also has one of the larger engineering campuses in the belt, PCCOE, so student and young-professional demand sits together. The catch is that it is a long way from Hinjewadi and, for now, the metro does not end here.
Who lives here
Engineering students and recent graduates, employees of the industrial belt, and families in the planned sectors. Some senior residents own flats and rent them out to sharers.
Who works here. The main anchors are educational and industrial. PCCOE and the other institutes in Pradhikaran draw thousands of students, and the auto and engineering units of Chinchwad, Akurdi and Bhosari draw the working population. Nigdi is also a base for people who commute to Talawade and the northern IT park. The Bhakti Shakti area is a traffic node, and the sports and public facilities in Pradhikaran anchor the residential side.
Where to live, area by area
Rents below are indicative ranges for a private room in a shared flat, before deposit. Confirm the number with the person before you commit to anything.
The heart of planned Nigdi, with apartment blocks, gardens and the PCCOE campus area. Lots of students and young professionals, and the deepest flatmate market in Nigdi. See the sibling page on PG near PCCOE for campus details.
₹6,500 – ₹12,000 / month for a private room
An older residential neighbourhood with a market and the sports complex. Cheaper rents, steady demand and a settled feel. Good for people working across the industrial belt.
₹5,500 – ₹10,500 / month for a private room
The transport hub at the highway end, useful for anyone who travels out of the city on the old highway. Loud, busy and the easiest place to find a room quickly.
₹5,500 – ₹9,500 / month for a private room
The edge toward Ravet and Akurdi, with newer societies and higher rents. Handy for the Ravet side roads.
₹7,000 – ₹12,000 / month for a private room
How long it actually takes to get places
| Destination | Typical time |
|---|---|
| PCCOE and Pradhikaran | 5–15 min; many students walk |
| Pimpri and Chinchwad | 20–40 min by road; the old highway is slow at peak |
| Hinjewadi | 45–80 min via Ravet or Wakad; not a comfortable daily run |
| Pune railway station and Shivajinagar | 45–75 min by road; the Line 1 extension to Nigdi has been sanctioned, so check its progress before relying on it |
What it actually costs per month in Nigdi
Rent is the number people compare, and it is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the realistic all-in figure for one person sharing a flat in Nigdi.
| What you pay | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Room rent (private, shared flat) | ₹5,500 – ₹12,000 |
| Deposit (one-off) | ₹11,000 – ₹24,000 |
| Maintenance & utilities | ₹1,000 – ₹2,300 |
| Food | ₹4,500 – ₹6,500 |
| Local transport | ₹500 – ₹1,500 |
| Realistic monthly total | ₹11,000 – ₹21,000 |
The deposit is the part that catches people out — Pune commonly asks two months up front and some landlords ask more. Read the security deposit guide before you hand anything over, and get the refund terms written on the receipt.
Flatmate, roommate or PG — which one do you actually want?
The words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, which matters when you are searching.
- A flatmate shares the flat but has their own room. You split rent and bills, cook or order separately, and keep your own space. This is what most working professionals in Nigdi mean when they say flatmate.
- A roommate shares the room itself. Cheapest option by a wide margin — often 40 to 50 percent less than a private room — and common among students and first-jobbers who are saving hard.
- A PG gives you a bed with meals and cleaning handled, plus house rules and often a gate timing. Simpler to start, less freedom, and once you split a flat three ways the cost difference usually disappears.
Bunkd covers all three. You set whether you want your own room or are happy sharing one, and the matching works the same way either direction. If a PG is what you are after, the honest PG versus flatshare comparison is worth five minutes before you sign.
When to look
The academic calendar dominates. Rooms in Pradhikaran fill in June and July when new engineering students arrive, and again in December when semester results lead to changes. Working professionals take rooms across the year with a lift in April and October. If you want a cheap bed near the campus at a fair price, start looking in May, before the rush, rather than in July.
What to check before you pay anything
- Ask which sector the flat actually lies in and whether it is in the planned area or the older village side; the two differ in rent and infrastructure.
- Check the distance to the bus stand and to the nearest railway or metro connection. Nigdi's transport is road-first.
- Ask about water and society rules in the Pradhikaran apartments. Some societies do not allow more than two unrelated tenants per flat.
- Confirm the deposit terms in writing and ask how quickly it is refunded. Student-heavy areas see a lot of deposit disputes.
- Visit on a weekday evening. The industrial side of Nigdi can be noisy and smoky at shift change.
Finding the person, not just the room
Most flatshares fail on lifestyle, not on rent. Bunkd asks the things that actually decide whether living together works — sleep schedule, cleanliness, social battery, guest policy, food preference and your one real dealbreaker — and matches on those. You swipe through people, match when it is mutual, and chat inside the app before anyone shares a phone number.
If you have not found a flat yet, Squad Mode lets you match with other people searching in Nigdi so you can pool budgets and take a 2BHK or 3BHK together. Splitting a bigger flat is almost always cheaper per person than renting a single room alone — the rent split calculator works out a fair division when the rooms are not the same size.

Common questions
How much does a room cost in Nigdi?
A private room in a shared flat is about ₹5,500 to ₹12,000 a month. PG beds are ₹4,500 to ₹8,500, more with meals and AC. Pradhikaran and the Ravet edge are at the top of the range, and Yamunanagar and the bus stand side at the bottom.
Is Nigdi good for engineering students?
Yes. PCCOE and other institutes are here, and the area has a larger student support ecosystem than most of Pimpri-Chinchwad, including food, stationery and PGs. It is one of the better student areas in PCMC.
Is Nigdi connected to Metro?
Not yet in a way you should plan around. An extension of Line 1 toward Nigdi has been approved, but do not assume a station is open. Until then, bus, auto and train from nearby stations are your links.
Is Nigdi better than Akurdi?
Nigdi has more planned housing and a stronger student scene, and Akurdi is closer to Bajaj Auto and the railway. Choose based on work or campus location, since the two are a short ride apart.
Is Bunkd free in Nigdi?
Yes. No fee and no brokerage, verified phone profiles, and Squad Mode so a group of students or colleagues can team up before taking a larger flat together.
