Flatmates & Roommates in Aundh, Pune
Updated 30 Sep 2026
Aundh is the settled, walkable end of west Pune. It has been a residential neighbourhood for decades, so the flats are older and better finished than the fresh towers of the IT corridor, and the streets have shops, doctors and bakeries instead of construction hoardings. The catch is that it is not next to any IT park. People choose it for the neighbourhood and accept a longer ride, which means shared flats here are taken by tenants who plan to stay a year or two, not a quarter.
Who lives here
Working professionals in their late twenties and early thirties, research scholars and postgraduates from the university side, and people who lived in Hinjewadi for a year and wanted a proper neighbourhood.
What's nearby. Savitribai Phule Pune University and its departments across Ganeshkhind Road, Westend Mall, the government district hospital on the Aundh side, Medipoint Hospital, the Aundh coaching cluster, and the offices on Baner Road and Balewadi. Aundh has few large employers of its own; people live here and work elsewhere.
Where to live, area by area
Rents below are indicative ranges for a private room in a shared flat, before deposit. Confirm the number with the person before you commit to anything.
The old core. Dense low-rise blocks and older apartment buildings, a fruit-and-vegetable market within walking distance and autos on every corner. It has the largest number of shared 2BHKs in Aundh, and most listings here are people replacing an outgoing flatmate rather than a fresh flat.
₹8,500 – ₹15,000 / month for a private room
Wider roads, newer mid-rise societies and the pricier flats. Good if you want a lift, covered parking and a security desk, and it is the part of Aundh with the most restaurants. You pay for that tidiness.
₹11,000 – ₹18,000 / month for a private room
Toward the Ganeshkhind side of the neighbourhood, older buildings, and the cheapest rooms with a genuine Aundh address. Popular with scholars and postgraduates because the university road is close.
₹8,000 – ₹13,500 / month for a private room
The pocket that behaves like Baner. Newer buildings, a shorter run to Baner Road and the highway, and rents that drift upward the closer you get to the Baner boundary.
₹10,000 – ₹18,000 / month for a private room
How long it actually takes to get places
| Destination | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Baner / Balewadi | 10–20 min; the link road backs up in the evening, so budget more after 6pm |
| Hinjewadi Phase 1 | 35–55 min via Baner and the highway or via Wakad; the bridge decides it |
| Savitribai Phule Pune University | 10–15 min by two-wheeler, longer by bus if it is not a direct route |
| Shivajinagar / Deccan | 20–35 min along University Road; the Ganeshkhind stretch is slow at 9am |
What it actually costs per month in Aundh
Rent is the number people compare, and it is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the realistic all-in figure for one person sharing a flat in Aundh.
| What you pay | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Room rent (private, shared flat) | ₹9,000 – ₹18,000 |
| Deposit (one-off) | ₹18,000 – ₹36,000 |
| Maintenance & utilities | ₹1,500 – ₹3,000 |
| Food | ₹5,500 – ₹8,000 |
| Local transport | ₹1,000 – ₹2,500 (fuel, or auto to the Hinjewadi road) |
| Realistic monthly total | ₹16,000 – ₹31,000 |
The deposit is the part that catches people out — Pune commonly asks two months up front and some landlords ask more. Read the security deposit guide before you hand anything over, and get the refund terms written on the receipt.
Flatmate, roommate or PG — which one do you actually want?
The words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, which matters when you are searching.
- A flatmate shares the flat but has their own room. You split rent and bills, cook or order separately, and keep your own space. This is what most working professionals in Aundh mean when they say flatmate.
- A roommate shares the room itself. Cheapest option by a wide margin — often 40 to 50 percent less than a private room — and common among students and first-jobbers who are saving hard.
- A PG gives you a bed with meals and cleaning handled, plus house rules and often a gate timing. Simpler to start, less freedom, and once you split a flat three ways the cost difference usually disappears.
Bunkd covers all three. You set whether you want your own room or are happy sharing one, and the matching works the same way either direction. If a PG is what you are after, the honest PG versus flatshare comparison is worth five minutes before you sign.
When to look
Aundh does not have a single rush month. It picks up a little in June and July when university and coaching intakes arrive, and again in January when people relocating for new jobs choose a base before deciding on a firmer area. Most rooms open when a tenant's lease runs out, typically at the eleven-month mark, so listings cluster at month-ends. Because the neighbourhood suits people who stay, a room that is good tends to be taken by someone the current flatmates already know.
What to check before you pay anything
- Ask for the exact address, not "near ITI Road". A flat on the far side of the road from the market is a very different daily life from one above it.
- Older Aundh buildings may not have a lift. A fourth-floor walk-up loses its charm with a delivery, a cylinder and a bad knee.
- Check the covered parking allocation for two-wheelers. Several older societies give one slot per flat, not per person.
- Ask whether the rent includes society maintenance and whether it is billed monthly or quarterly.
- Confirm which flatmate is on the leave and licence agreement. Maharashtra requires it to be registered, and an unregistered arrangement leaves the person subletting with no paperwork.
Finding the person, not just the room
Most flatshares fail on lifestyle, not on rent. Bunkd asks the things that actually decide whether living together works — sleep schedule, cleanliness, social battery, guest policy, food preference and your one real dealbreaker — and matches on those. You swipe through people, match when it is mutual, and chat inside the app before anyone shares a phone number.
If you have not found a flat yet, Squad Mode lets you match with other people searching in Aundh so you can pool budgets and take a 2BHK or 3BHK together. Splitting a bigger flat is almost always cheaper per person than renting a single room alone — the rent split calculator works out a fair division when the rooms are not the same size.

Common questions
What does a room cost in Aundh compared to Baner?
A private room in a shared flat runs roughly ₹9,000 to ₹18,000 a month in Aundh. That is a little below Baner Road and the Balewadi high-rises, and above the Wakad or Thergaon end. A shared bedroom brings the number down to around ₹6,000 to ₹9,000.
Is Aundh practical if my office is in Hinjewadi?
Only if you have your own vehicle and can tolerate about forty-five minutes each way on a bad day. Most Hinjewadi employees choose Wakad, Marunji or Baner. Aundh works better for jobs in Baner, Balewadi, Kothrud or Shivajinagar.
Can I find a PG in Aundh, or is it all flats?
Both exist. There are PGs around the Sanewadi and ITI Road belts, with bed rents typically in the ₹7,000 to ₹14,000 range including meals. Flat sharing is the larger market, especially for people who want a kitchen of their own.
Will Metro Line 3 help Aundh residents?
Indirectly. The line runs along the Baner and Balewadi side, not through Aundh, so you would ride a short auto or bike to a station first. Some stations on the line are still closed, so do not count on it when choosing where to live.
Does Bunkd charge for finding a flatmate in Aundh?
No. Signing up, swiping, matching and chatting are free, and there is no brokerage. You deal directly with the person offering the room.
