PG & Rooms Near Symbiosis, Pune
Symbiosis is not one campus, and that is the first thing to sort out before you look at a single room. Viman Nagar, Lavale, Model Colony and Kirkee are genuinely different rental markets, and the right answer for a student at one is the wrong answer for a student at another.
Who lives here
Symbiosis undergraduates and postgraduates across SIU's Pune campuses, a large share of them from outside Maharashtra.
Campuses. Symbiosis International University campuses at Viman Nagar, Lavale (Hill Base and Hill Top), Model Colony, Kirkee and Senapati Bapat Road.
Where to live, area by area
Rents below are indicative ranges for a private room in a shared flat, before deposit. Confirm the number with the person before you commit to anything.
Walkable or a five-minute ride. The most convenient and the most competitive. Datta Nagar and Sainikwadi are the affordable pockets inside it.
₹9,000 – ₹18,000 / month for a private room
Lavale is on the far side of the hill with limited stock nearby, so most non-hostel students live in Bavdhan or Pashan and commute in.
₹8,000 – ₹14,000 / month for a private room
Central, well-connected, older buildings, and walkable to a lot of Pune.
₹10,000 – ₹17,000 / month for a private room
Pricier alternative to Viman Nagar with better restaurants, popular with postgraduate students.
₹13,000 – ₹22,000 / month for a private room

What it actually costs per month in Symbiosis
Rent is the number people compare, and it is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the realistic all-in figure for one person sharing a flat in Symbiosis.
| What you pay | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Room rent (private, shared flat) | ₹8,000 – ₹18,000 |
| Deposit (one-off) | ₹16,000 – ₹36,000 |
| Maintenance & utilities | ₹1,500 – ₹3,000 |
| Food | included in most PGs; ₹6,000 – ₹9,000 if self-catering |
| Local transport | ₹800 – ₹2,000 |
| Realistic monthly total | ₹16,000 – ₹32,000 |
The deposit is the part that catches people out — Pune commonly asks two months up front and some landlords ask more. Read the security deposit guide before you hand anything over, and get the refund terms written on the receipt.
Flatmate, roommate or PG — which one do you actually want?
The words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, which matters when you are searching.
- A flatmate shares the flat but has their own room. You split rent and bills, cook or order separately, and keep your own space. This is what most working professionals in Symbiosis mean when they say flatmate.
- A roommate shares the room itself. Cheapest option by a wide margin — often 40 to 50 percent less than a private room — and common among students and first-jobbers who are saving hard.
- A PG gives you a bed with meals and cleaning handled, plus house rules and often a gate timing. Simpler to start, less freedom, and once you split a flat three ways the cost difference usually disappears.
Bunkd covers all three. You set whether you want your own room or are happy sharing one, and the matching works the same way either direction. If a PG is what you are after, the honest PG versus flatshare comparison is worth five minutes before you sign.
When to look
Symbiosis intake lands in June and July and the Viman Nagar stock tightens sharply in that window. Postgraduate joiners arrive slightly earlier. If you are Lavale-based and planning to live off campus, start in April — the Bavdhan side has less stock than people assume.
What to check before you pay anything
- Confirm which campus you are actually attending before signing anything. Viman Nagar to Lavale is not a commute you want to discover.
- For Lavale, ask realistically about transport — the hill road is the constraint, not the distance.
- Ask about the guest and curfew policy. Symbiosis-area PGs vary widely on both.
- Check whether the rent includes maintenance and parking; in the Viman Nagar towers it often does not.
- If the flat is shared with working professionals, match on sleep schedule rather than assuming it will be fine.
Finding the person, not just the room
Most flatshares fail on lifestyle, not on rent. Bunkd asks the things that actually decide whether living together works — sleep schedule, cleanliness, social battery, guest policy, food preference and your one real dealbreaker — and matches on those. You swipe through people, match when it is mutual, and chat inside the app before anyone shares a phone number.
If you have not found a flat yet, Squad Mode lets you match with other people searching in Symbiosis so you can pool budgets and take a 2BHK or 3BHK together. Splitting a bigger flat is almost always cheaper per person than renting a single room alone — the rent split calculator works out a fair division when the rooms are not the same size.

Common questions
How much is a PG near Symbiosis Viman Nagar?

Most take the hostel. Those who do not usually live in Bavdhan or Pashan and commute, which is a real thirty-five to fifty minutes on the hill road.
Is Viman Nagar or Kalyani Nagar better?
Viman Nagar is closer to the campus and cheaper. Kalyani Nagar is more expensive with better restaurants. For most students Viman Nagar is the practical choice.
Can I find a flatmate before I arrive in Pune?
