PG & Rooms Near PICT, Dhankawadi
Updated 30 Sep 2026
Pune Institute of Computer Technology is on the Pune–Satara Road corridor at Dhankawadi, close to Trimurti Chowk. It is a computer, electronics and IT college with a reputation among Maharashtra students, so many who join it have moved to Pune specifically for it and rent nearby. The neighbourhood is shared with the large Bharati Vidyapeeth complex, which means one rental belt serves thousands of students from two very different institutions, and landlords in Dhankawadi and Balaji Nagar are used to letting to both. Prices are moderate, and the difficulty is congestion on Satara Road rather than availability.
Who lives here
PICT engineering students, many of them first-generation Pune residents; some Bharati Vidyapeeth students in the same lanes; and working staff from small IT and service firms along Satara Road.
Campuses in this belt. Pune Institute of Computer Technology (SCTR's PICT), the Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University campus in Dhankawadi, and VIT Bibwewadi a short ride northeast.
Where to live, area by area
Rents below are indicative ranges for a private room in a shared flat, before deposit. Confirm the number with the person before you commit to anything.
Five to ten minutes on foot from the college. The densest PG cluster and the first choice of students who want to avoid Satara Road traffic.
₹8,000 – ₹14,000 / month for a private room
Ten to fifteen minutes away, on the Pune-facing side. Residential, cheaper flats, and a short bus ride to Swargate.
₹7,000 – ₹13,000 / month for a private room
Toward the Katraj ghat. Cheaper, quieter, and more independent houses. Fifteen to twenty minutes by two-wheeler, with a bus link on Satara Road.
₹6,500 – ₹12,000 / month for a private room
North toward the city. A bit pricier, more established, and a good compromise for students who want the city closer at weekends.
₹8,000 – ₹15,000 / month for a private room
How long it actually takes to get places
| Destination | Typical time |
|---|---|
| PICT gate from Dhankawadi lanes | 5–12 min walk |
| Bharati Vidyapeeth campus | 5–10 min; effectively the same neighbourhood |
| Swargate metro station (Line 1) | 20–30 min by bus or auto; Satara Road slows at peak |
| Pune railway station | 35–50 min via Swargate |
What it actually costs per month in PICT
Rent is the number people compare, and it is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the realistic all-in figure for one person sharing a flat in PICT.
| What you pay | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Room rent (private, shared flat) | ₹7,000 – ₹15,000 |
| Deposit (one-off) | ₹14,000 – ₹30,000 (PGs often 1 month) |
| Maintenance & utilities | ₹1,000 – ₹2,500 |
| Food | included in most PGs; ₹5,000 – ₹7,500 if self-catering |
| Local transport | ₹500 – ₹1,500 |
| Realistic monthly total | ₹13,000 – ₹25,000 |
The deposit is the part that catches people out — Pune commonly asks two months up front and some landlords ask more. Read the security deposit guide before you hand anything over, and get the refund terms written on the receipt.
Flatmate, roommate or PG — which one do you actually want?
The words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, which matters when you are searching.
- A flatmate shares the flat but has their own room. You split rent and bills, cook or order separately, and keep your own space. This is what most working professionals in PICT mean when they say flatmate.
- A roommate shares the room itself. Cheapest option by a wide margin — often 40 to 50 percent less than a private room — and common among students and first-jobbers who are saving hard.
- A PG gives you a bed with meals and cleaning handled, plus house rules and often a gate timing. Simpler to start, less freedom, and once you split a flat three ways the cost difference usually disappears.
Bunkd covers all three. You set whether you want your own room or are happy sharing one, and the matching works the same way either direction. If a PG is what you are after, the honest PG versus flatshare comparison is worth five minutes before you sign.
When to look
PICT admits through the Maharashtra CAP rounds, so the first-year cohort is confirmed in August or September, much later than the general Pune academic calendar. Continuing students book in May and June. Because Bharati Vidyapeeth admissions land in the same weeks, Dhankawadi stock is scarce from July through September. Anyone who has secured a PICT seat should look at rooms before the allotment result comes out if their rank makes admission almost certain; refunds in this belt vary, so ask.
What to check before you pay anything
- Ask whether the PG serves an early breakfast. PICT's timetable starts early and canteen options are limited.
- Check how the building handles Wi-Fi at night. Computer students need stable internet and shared connections in old buildings often drop.
- Confirm whether the deposit can be adjusted if your CAP admission falls through and you leave within a month.
- Walk the route to the gate along Satara Road. Crossing near Trimurti Chowk is a real hazard at rush hour.
- Ask about study-friendly rules. A PG that permits a desk lamp at 2am for project work is worth more than a gym.
Finding the person, not just the room
Most flatshares fail on lifestyle, not on rent. Bunkd asks the things that actually decide whether living together works — sleep schedule, cleanliness, social battery, guest policy, food preference and your one real dealbreaker — and matches on those. You swipe through people, match when it is mutual, and chat inside the app before anyone shares a phone number.
If you have not found a flat yet, Squad Mode lets you match with other people searching in PICT so you can pool budgets and take a 2BHK or 3BHK together. Splitting a bigger flat is almost always cheaper per person than renting a single room alone — the rent split calculator works out a fair division when the rooms are not the same size.

Common questions
How much is a PG near PICT Pune?
A PG bed with meals is typically ₹8,000 to ₹14,000 in Dhankawadi and Balaji Nagar. A private room in a shared flat runs ₹7,000 to ₹15,000, and is usually cheaper once split with two other students.
Does PICT have a hostel?
PICT has hostel accommodation, but capacity is limited compared with the intake. Check current fees and eligibility with the institute, and have a fallback PG in mind in case you do not get a seat.
Are there girls PGs near PICT?
Yes, in Dhankawadi and Balaji Nagar. Ask about gate timings for late projects and labs, and look at the lane after dark. Larger PGs with a resident warden are more consistent than small flats let by individual owners.
Can I find flatmates from my batch?
Yes. Squad Mode helps you match with other students joining PICT or nearby colleges so you can share a flat in Dhankawadi rather than a PG bed.
Is Bunkd free?
Yes. No fees, no brokerage.
