Flatmates & Roommates in Marunji, Pune
Updated 30 Sep 2026
Marunji is the practical answer to Hinjewadi: right beside the park, but with lower rents and better air. The village itself is old, the township next to it, Life Republic, is new, and both are only a few minutes’ ride from the infotech park. You pay less than in Phase 1, and you skip the Wakad bridge entirely because you are already on the right side of it. The compromise is that Marunji is still developing, and while the flats are fine the surroundings are not always finished.
Who lives here
Hinjewadi employees who want an easy commute without Phase 1 rent, couples and pairs of friends splitting a two-bedroom, and remote workers who like a township setting.
Who works nearby. Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park across its three phases, with the large IT services firms there, and the Life Republic township with its own retail and schools. Metro Line 3 is planned to run from the Hinjewadi and Maan end, with stations opening in phases, so check which are actually running before counting on it.
Where to live, area by area
Rents below are indicative ranges for a private room in a shared flat, before deposit. Confirm the number with the person before you commit to anything.
A gated, planned township with its own internal roads, parks and mini-market, so daily life is self-contained. Flats are newer, tenants are mostly working professionals, and the society charges for amenities. Higher rents than the village, with less noise.
₹9,000 – ₹15,000 / month for a private room
The old village. Simple houses and low buildings, small shops and a few independent PGs. The cheapest way to live in Marunji, with basic conveniences and less street lighting at night.
₹5,500 – ₹9,500 / month for a private room
The main road stretch linking the village to the infotech park. Flats along it get the shortest rides to office and the strongest supply of autos, but also the heaviest morning traffic.
₹8,000 – ₹13,000 / month for a private room
Toward Blue Ridge and the road to Maan, where the Metro Line 3 depot sits. Newer projects, growing amenities, and a pace of change that means construction noise for a while yet.
₹7,000 – ₹12,500 / month for a private room
How long it actually takes to get places
| Destination | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Hinjewadi Phase 1 | 10–20 min; the internal roads jam at shift change |
| Hinjewadi Phase 2 and Phase 3 | 10–25 min depending on the gate you use |
| Wakad | 20–35 min, and the bridge determines your time |
| Baner / Balewadi | 30–45 min via the highway; the return is slower in the evening |
What it actually costs per month in Marunji
Rent is the number people compare, and it is rarely the number that decides anything. This is the realistic all-in figure for one person sharing a flat in Marunji.
| What you pay | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Room rent (private, shared flat) | ₹6,500 – ₹12,500 |
| Deposit (one-off) | ₹13,000 – ₹25,000 |
| Maintenance & utilities | ₹1,500 – ₹3,000 (township maintenance can add more) |
| Food | ₹4,500 – ₹7,000 |
| Local transport | ₹800 – ₹2,000 (short two-wheeler or shuttle run) |
| Realistic monthly total | ₹13,500 – ₹24,500 |
The deposit is the part that catches people out — Pune commonly asks two months up front and some landlords ask more. Read the security deposit guide before you hand anything over, and get the refund terms written on the receipt.
Flatmate, roommate or PG — which one do you actually want?
The words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, which matters when you are searching.
- A flatmate shares the flat but has their own room. You split rent and bills, cook or order separately, and keep your own space. This is what most working professionals in Marunji mean when they say flatmate.
- A roommate shares the room itself. Cheapest option by a wide margin — often 40 to 50 percent less than a private room — and common among students and first-jobbers who are saving hard.
- A PG gives you a bed with meals and cleaning handled, plus house rules and often a gate timing. Simpler to start, less freedom, and once you split a flat three ways the cost difference usually disappears.
Bunkd covers all three. You set whether you want your own room or are happy sharing one, and the matching works the same way either direction. If a PG is what you are after, the honest PG versus flatshare comparison is worth five minutes before you sign.
When to look
Marunji follows the IT hiring cycle a little behind Phase 1, with January to March and June to August the busiest months. Because so many residents are company-linked, rooms also open at project handovers and relocations. The township’s tenants tend to sign eleven-month agreements, so many vacancies land in the same month a year later. If you are moving in during a hiring window, start looking a month ahead.
What to check before you pay anything
- Ask whether you are renting inside Life Republic or in the village. The rules, charges and quality are completely different.
- Find out about tenant registration inside the township. It often requires a form signed by the owner and society office.
- Check the state of the road from the flat to the main road. Parts of Marunji are still being built, and unpaved links get slippery in the monsoon.
- Ask about shuttle or bus routes to your specific phase, because coverage across the three phases is uneven.
- Get the leave and licence agreement registered. It is required in Maharashtra and it protects the deposit you are paying.
Finding the person, not just the room
Most flatshares fail on lifestyle, not on rent. Bunkd asks the things that actually decide whether living together works — sleep schedule, cleanliness, social battery, guest policy, food preference and your one real dealbreaker — and matches on those. You swipe through people, match when it is mutual, and chat inside the app before anyone shares a phone number.
If you have not found a flat yet, Squad Mode lets you match with other people searching in Marunji so you can pool budgets and take a 2BHK or 3BHK together. Splitting a bigger flat is almost always cheaper per person than renting a single room alone — the rent split calculator works out a fair division when the rooms are not the same size.

Common questions
How much is a room in Marunji?
A private room in a shared flat is roughly ₹6,500 to ₹12,500 a month. Life Republic and the road toward Phase 1 are the more expensive parts, and the old village is cheapest. A shared bedroom typically runs ₹4,500 to ₹7,500.
Is Marunji cheaper than Hinjewadi?
Usually a little, and it can be considerably so compared with the walkable end of Phase 1. The larger gain is often flat quality: for the same rent you frequently get a newer building with a lift and security. Marunji is also quieter.
Do I need a vehicle to live in Marunji?
It helps enormously. Company shuttles and autos cover the main road, but the internal lanes and the village are not well served. If you have none, pick a flat on Marunji Road or inside a township with shuttle service.
Will Metro Line 3 change life in Marunji?
In time, probably. The line is designed to serve the Hinjewadi and Maan end, with stations opening in phases, and some stations further along the line are still closed. Rent for what exists today; do not pay a premium for a station that is not yet running.
Is there brokerage on Bunkd for Marunji?
No. Bunkd is free for anyone looking and for anyone with a spare room, and it charges no brokerage.
